John Wood Survives Spoon River

The John Wood men's basketball team won 54-43 over Spoon River College (6-12 and 2-5 in M-WAC) on Saturday, January 25. The Blazers (9-12) are 3-2 in Region 24 play and will look to keep the momentum going.

Spoon River jumped ahead early, getting the 17-12 lead with 9:41 on the clock in the first half. The Blazers inched closer to the Snappers as the minutes ticked down, cutting the lead to just two points with under a minute left. A last second jumper gave the Snappers the 25-21 lead going into the break. The Blazers pulled 47-39 ahead with 3:51 on the clock in the second half, earning their largest lead of the half. The Snappers continued to push forward in the last several minutes, trimming the deficit to 10 points with 1:11 left in the game. A layup and jumper by Cachao Gianquinto helped the Blazers win 54-43 over the Snappers. 

Up next, the Blazers host Lincoln Land College on Wednesday, January 29. The game is scheduled for 7:30 PM at John Wood Community College.
